Accessibility
Keyboards, screen readers, zoom, and phones. What we aim for and where to write when it falls short.
Left Unlocked is built to work with a keyboard, a screen reader, a zoomed-in browser, and a phone. We aim for WCAG 2.2 level AA on every page and check it with axe-core and by hand. Last checked 13 September 2026.
What that means here
- Everything can be done from the keyboard: the scanner, the menus, the report, the dashboard and its per-app menu (arrow keys move through it, Escape closes it). A "Skip to content" link is the first thing the Tab key reaches.
- Focus is always visible, text meets a contrast of at least 4.5:1 on its background, and nothing depends on colour alone: links in text are underlined, findings carry their severity as a word.
- Pages have proper landmarks, headings, and labels; status messages and a finished scan are announced to screen readers; code blocks can be scrolled from the keyboard.
- Animation follows your system's reduced-motion setting. There are no time limits, no pop-ups, and no cookies for visitors.
- Text follows your browser's font-size setting and its zoom (sizes are relative units), up to 200% and beyond, and the layout reflows to a narrow screen without sideways scrolling. Windows high contrast mode and the "increase contrast" preference are honoured.
- There is no accessibility overlay or widget here, on purpose: your browser and operating system already offer larger text, higher contrast, and reduced motion, and this site is built to follow them rather than to reimplement them badly.
Known limits
- The paste-ready fixes are code, read as code by a screen reader; each finding also explains the fix in plain English above it.
- The score counts up when a scan finishes; the final number is what a screen reader receives.
- Pages on other sites we link to (GitHub, Supabase, Firebase) are theirs.
